TEACHING

Lewis is Head of Piano at the City Literary Institute in London, where he leads a vibrant department of over 400 students and 25 teachers. Lewis's teaching at the College focuses on introducing advanced pianists to large-scale bodies of repertoire, which in previous years have included a collaborative performance of the Goldberg Variations and coaching 16 pianists in a project to record the complete Mozart Sonatas professionally. He founded and curates the annual week-long City Lit Piano Festival, which hosts world-class and next-generation artists, and gives amateur pianists a platform to perform in London. Lewis also teaches in the Junior Department of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, nurturing the next generation of young pianists. He taught on a wide variety of courses around the country and has been invited to teach for Tonebase. He runs a small private teaching practice in his West London Studio, catering for gifted musicians of all ages. Lewis specialises in teaching advanced adults and young musicians of minimum grade 5 to postgraduate level and beyond.

Lewis’ main aim is to open the eyes of his students to the diversity of music, what it is to be a 21st Century musician, and to the array of opportunities to which it can lead. Many past students have won competitions, achieved high marks in graded examinations and diplomas, and gone on to further their music education at institutions such as the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and a variety of universities and music colleges around the world.

Lessons are either 60 or 90 minutes in length. Lewis is a member of the Independant Society of Musicians and is a Trustee of EPTA UK; he has multiple DBS checks which are available upon request.
